Lenovo IdeaCentre 700-25ISH

Lenovo IdeaCentre 700-25ISH

Lenovo have been incredibly successful with their IdeaCentre range and their latest addition the IdeaCentre 700-25ISH comes out swinging with its powerful 6th generation Quad-Core Intel Core i7-6700 running at 3.4 GHz and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Blazing fast boot-up and load times are achieved thanks to the fast 128GB solid state drive and storage is not a problem thanks to the 1TB 7200RPM hard disk drive. The NVIDIA Geforce GTX960 GPU is a mid range graphics card that enables the IdeaCentre to play most modern games on medium to high graphics settings at 1920×1080 resolution with reasonably high frame rates although things like Anti-Aliasing and Antistropic filtering should be set slightly lower to achieve optimal performance. The chassis is of high quality and looks good with its stylish brushed aluminium design and runs silently for the most part. The included keyboard and mouse are very basic and not ideal for gaming and Lenovo did not include any wireless connectivity so users will need a LAN connection. At this price point the Lenovo IdeaCentre 700-25ISH offers perfectly acceptable gaming performance and incredible value for money.

Lenovo Erazer X315 90AY000HUSLenovo Erazer X315 90AY000HUS

Lenovo are known for their hard hitting business laptops and desktops, but they also have a few entry level gaming desktops to suit those gamers with tighter budgets. The Lenovo Erazer X315 offers an aggressive case that has plenty of room for you to upgrade your hardware right away or further down the line. You get an AMD Quad Core FX 770K processor and 8GB of DDR3 RAM which will offer a good level of lag free gaming as long as you keep the settings low. You can easily and cheaply upgrade the RAM to 16GB for increased performance for gaming and for power users looking to edit photos and videos. The AMD Radeon R9 360 graphics card features 2GB of dedicated video memory, but it will struggle to run newer games on medium to high settings. While the Radeon card is integrated into the mainboard and there is a free PCIe x16 slot, the supplied power supply is only a 280-Watt unit. You will have to upgrade it in order to install more powerful graphics. We recommend the Corsair CX600 600-Watt as a good replacement power supply. If you want to ramp up your gaming experience then we recommend that you look ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 460 graphics card. To store all of your games and multimedia files the Lenovo Erazer X315 comes with a superfast 128GB solid state drive and a 1TB 7200rpm mechanical hard drive. But the SSD is slightly small for modern games and you will have to choose which games you want to benefit from its fast performance.

Acer Predator G3 AG3-710-UR53Acer Predator G3 AG3-710-UR53

The Predator range of gaming laptops has been a massive success for Acer and they have taken the same winning formula and applied it to their gaming PC range. The fighter jet inspired case is every bit as aggressive as what we expect from a Predator PC. The front of the case even boasts a fold out headset cradle to keep your gaming headset safe and secure while not in use. Under the skin you get a Skylake-based Intel Core i5-6400 processor and 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM, which can be upgraded to a maximum of 16GB. While some of its competitors support up to 32GB or even 64GB of RAM, the 16GB that is supported will be more than enough for most games and multimedia apps. To ensure that you can play the latest AAA gaming titles, the Acer Predator G3 AG3-710-UR53 features an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 graphics card with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory. While the GTX 950 is an entry level GTX graphics card, it will still allow you to play games such as Diablo III, CS: GO, Overwatch and Battlefield 1 on ultra settings. However, in the long run you will have to consider purchasing a more powerful graphics card to retain higher frame rates. The Acer Predator G3 AG3-710-UR53 features a single 1TB 7200rpm mechanical hard drive, which will offer ample space for all of your games, but if you really want that extra performance, then we recommend installing a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD. While the Acer Predator G3 AG3-710-UR53 offers a good selection of ports, it is missing a next generation USB 3.1 Type-C port, but you can purchase a PCI card if you require these ports for your devices at home.

Specs

  • Display not included, pixels
  • Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
  • 24.25 lbs

Pros

  • NVIDIA GTX graphics
  • Aggressive gaming case
  • Great selection of ports
  • 500w power supply
  • WiFi and Bluetooth

Cons

  • No SLI support

ASUS G11CD-US009TASUS G11CD-US009T

The ASUS G11CD-US009T is the baby brother of the ASUS G11CD-US006T and sports the same aggressive looking gaming case as its big brother. The ASUS G11CD-US009T is powered by a Skylake Intel Core i5-6400 processor and 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and offers enough power to run design and photo editing apps. Graphics are provided by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 and while it is a mid-range card it still offers good graphics for current games. You will easily be able to run Dota 2, Overwatch, Battlefield 4 and GTA V on the highest settings. The GTX 960 allows for multiple monitors to be connected thanks to three DisplayPorts, an HDMI port and a DVI port. The case has been warranty sealed and opening it will void your 1 year warranty from ASUS. But if you are willing to risk losing your warranty then you can upgrade the graphics, but this will require upgrading the 500-Watt power supply too. We recommend the GTX 970 as a good upgrade that will allow you to carry on gaming on high and ultra settings for some time to come as the main board only has one PCIe x16. The Hybrid hard drive offer 1TB of mechanical hard drive storage space and an 8GB SSD that is used for cache. But you won’t have any control of which apps will have access to the 8GB SSD. The ASUS G11CD-US009T has 10 USB ports, including two USB 3.1 ports, but they are not USB Type-C ports.

Lenovo-X315-Gaming-90B00002US

Lenovo X315 90B00002US

The Lenovo Erazer X315 is a modestly priced gaming PC with the hardware to match the power of more expensive gaming desktops like the mid-range Alienware X51. It is a mid-tower desktop, meaning it is much larger than console-sized systems like the Alienware Alpha. On a positive note, the extra space gives you ample room for upgrades and the chassis isn’t so large that it can’t easily sit under your desk. The front panel of the X315 is attractively shaped for a futuristic look with large pentagon shaped vents on the left and right panel. The angled plastic doors on the top of the front panel houses a DVD drive, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader and couple of audio ports. The rear panel holds four more USB ports, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, a DVI port and a DisplayPort, 7.1 channel sound audio outputs and a Wi-Fi antenna. The power button has a blue LED backlight, adding extra flare to the X315’s modern design. Inside the chassis, you will find the latest middle of the pack AMD hardware including an AMD FX 770K 3.5 GHz Processor and a dedicated ATI Radeon R9 360 with 2GB of Video Memory. Complemented by 8GB of DDR3 RAM, this system has enough horsepower for running not only productivity and multimedia tasks but also graphics intensive applications and games. On top of the 1TB 7200 rpm Hard Drive, a 128 GB SSD is included to enable fast boot up and decrease application loading times. In conclusion, the Erazer X315 is a highly expandable system serving as an adequately powerful desktop for newbie gamers and enthusiasts looking for a capable gaming rig for under $700.

ASUS ROG G20AJ-US009SASUS ROG G20AJ-US009S

Aesthetics are a huge part of gaming culture with massive competition between brands to catch the eye of every gamer in the market for a new gaming rig. ASUS has always been on the forefront of gaming computers and the ASUS G20AJ-US009S may just be their best looking machine yet. Its small yet stylish chassis is said to be inspired by Battlestar Galactica which, when looking at it, is not hard to believe. With over 8 million color options when customizing the built in LED lighting ASUS has really emphasized aesthetics. Powered by one of the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7-4790 processors running at a whopping 3.6GHz, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and the ever so powerful NVIDIA GTX 760 GPU gaming on ultra graphical settings won’t be a problem. Thanks to clever technology that combines the speed of an SSD with the storage of a platter based hard drive the ASUS G20AJ-US009S achieves fast boot and load times by caching the OS and most frequently used applications on the 8GB of Solid-State storage while media and other general storage is handled by the 1TB hard drive. To squeeze everything into the tiny 12.5 liter chassis, the power supply unit is external and connected by 2 power cables. Some reviewers felt this makes it incredibly awkward to place on a desk or stand as additional space is needed for the power supply. Another issue that may deter some enthusiasts is that because of the small form factor working inside the machine is incredibly difficult and further upgrades are nearly impossible.

Specs

  • Windows 8.1

CybertronPC Borg-709 GMBG70934GNCybertronPC Borg-709 GMBG70934GN

The CybertronPC Borg-709 GMBG70934GN is a solid mid-range gaming PC with decent specs for the price. The Borg-709 uses an APEVIA X-Sniper 2 Metal Case with screwless drive-mounting design for easy installation. The casing supports up to 11 drives, seven expansion cards, eight fans and water cooling. It has an armored design with a large side vent for an aggressive appearance. There are more ventilation grilles in the front along with two USB 3.0 ports and two audio outputs for fast access. At the back, you will find four more USB ports, two DVI ports, an HDMi port, an Ethernet port, a Wireless 802.11bgn and audio outputs with 7.1 channel HD audio support. The versatile chassis houses an AMD FX-6300 3.50GHz Hexa-Core processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Reviewers at TechRadar have managed to push the FX-6300 to over 5GHz, meaning this CPU can be highly overclocked to achieve faster performance. This PC can effortlessly handle multitasking and regular computing tasks, and with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 graphics modern gaming at reasonable settings won’t be a problem. Since the Borg-709 is equipped with mid-range hardware, it is not ready to run games on max settings out of the box, but its gaming capability can be greatly enhanced by installing more memory and a top-of-the-line graphics card. The 600 Watt power supply will allow for more powerfull graphics cards to be installed, we recommend the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Overclocked. Overall, the Borg-709 GMBG70934GN is an easy to upgrade system with a well-balanced base configuration for the price, and there’s aren’t many competitors who offer the same level of performance and upgradability in this price range.

SkyTech HellFireSkyTech HellFire

Though marketing itself primarily as an affordable gaming desktop, the SkyTech HellFire also wishes to be seen as an all-rounder. The model advertises itself for both office and gaming usage, and it is easy to see why this is the case. The winning combination of a 12-Core AMD A10-7870K 3.9/4.1 GHz processor (8x GPU cores), integrated Radeon R7 240 graphics, and 8GB of RAM is hard to argue with. And with just a simple setting change of the power option to high performance, the results are vastly improved. SkyTech guarantees that users will be able to play mainstream competitive games such as Black Ops 2 and 3, Minecraft, League of Legends and Battlefield 4 on medium settings. But users who are looking for better performance will have to look at installing a graphics card. The Hellfire chassis allows for cards up to 12.5-inches to be installed, but users will have replace the 430 Watt power supply unit in order to install higher performance cards. We recommend the NVIDIA GeForce 750ti or the AMD Radeon R7 260X, which will both run on the installed power supply and offer more than three times the performance. The sci-fi design (almost resembling a Borg cube from Star Trek) is unique, stylish, and sturdy. It is also surprisingly compact, which means the SkyTech HellFire can be both transported and stored easily. With all this in mind, the SkyTech HellFire is a desktop model that appears to have very little standing in its way in its quest to satisfy users.

Cons

The SkyTech HellFire’s sleek and cool design seems to reflect its processing capabilities, thus making it a wise purchase for users who wish to game (and who wish to use the model for office use) within an affordable price range.

MSI VR Ready Aegis-050USMSI VR Ready Aegis-050US

Looking like something out of an Alien movie, the MSI VR Ready Aegis-050US is an aggressive looking gaming PC that has been designed to be VR ready. Not only does the case look futuristic, it is also a smaller form factor case that will take up less space at home. However, the smaller case does have a few drawbacks. First, the case will only accommodate a specific sized power supply unit. Meaning that you can’t just purchase a standard PSU to replace the smaller 350w unit that has been installed. Second, the smaller size affects the overall internal space and the case will only support two 3.5-inch drives and a single 2.5-inch drive. The MSI VR Ready Aegis-050US features a single 1TB 7200rpm hard drive which offers good performance, however you might want to consider a faster SSD to improve those game loading times. The good thing about this case is that unlike some huge setups, this one will be easy to carry to your next LAN party. The MSI VR Ready Aegis-050US sports a Skylake Intel Core i5-6400 processor and 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz RAM, which will make light work of your everyday computing tasks. However, if there is to be any bottlenecking with this system it will be caused by the 8GB of RAM. So you might want to consider doubling this to 16GB. The MSI VR Ready Aegis-050US has been designed to be ready for VR gaming and thanks to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 you will easily be able to play your favorite titles in VR. The GTX 1070 offers up to 40% greater performance than its predecessor and this gives it the edge while playing the next generation of games.

HP OMEN 870-090HP OMEN 870-090

The OMEN range was announced earlier this year as HP’s high-end gaming range. The OMEN 870-090 is HP’s most powerful gaming desktop that has been designed to target hardcore gamers. The elegant case is made up of a mix of brushed aluminum and plastic, but the shiny plastic is a magnet for fingerprints. Powering the OMEN 870-090 is a Skylake based Intel Core i7-6700K processor and 16GB of DDR4 RAM, which will easily handle more intensive tasks and will allow for lag free gaming. To ensure that the i7 processor stays cool if you choose to overclock it, HP have gone with a liquid cooling system that allows for safer overclocking. The water cooling system also allows the desktop to run quieter than its air cooled counterparts. When it comes to graphics, the OMEN 870-090 features NVIDIA’s latest GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5X video memory, which will allow for some serious gaming. You will have no issue running new titles such as Battlefield 1, COD: Infinity Warfare and For Honor on ultra settings with great frame rates. If you want the ultimate gaming experience then you can look at upgrading the GTX 1080 for a GTX Titan X, but this will cost you over $1000 for the card alone and you will need a more powerful power supply. To make sure that Windows boots up in seconds and that your games load with lightning fast speeds, HP have installed a Sandisk solid state drive, but with only 256GB of storage space, you will have to be selective with which games you install on the SSD. However you do get a 2TB 7200rpm mechanical drive to store all of your multimedia files and your games that won’t fit on the SSD.

Dell is no stranger to the gaming market, they have a long history of offering high-end gaming desktops and laptops. The Dell XPS x8900-8756BLK offers great gaming performance for users who prefer buying a complete solution instead of building their own gaming rig from scratch. The Dell XPS x8900-8756BLK features an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 and will easily run Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront on ultra settings. If you are after a powerful gaming rig without having to source your own parts, then the Lenovo Ideacentre Y900-34ISZ 90DD0075US is worth looking at. Featuring the latest card from NVIDIA, the GeForce GTX 1080 will run any game currently on the market on the highest of settings. Meaning that user won’t have to compromise for anything less than ultra settings for the upcoming Battlefield 1 and COD: Infinity Warfare games. Sporting a powerful 6th generation Intel Core i7-6700K processor and 16GB of DDR4 RAM, the Lenovo Ideacentre Y900-34ISZ 90DD0075US will cruise through even more hardware intensive apps. But at its steep price we would have expected a bit more RAM under the hood. The same goes with the storage drives, the Lenovo Ideacentre Y900-34ISZ 90DD0075US only comes with a 1TB 7200rpm mechanical hard drive and a 128GB solid state drive. With the size of modern games, the 128GB SSD will fill up extremely quickly and users will have to utilize the mechanical drive for some of their game installs. While it does have a great selection of USB ports, one thing is noticeably missing, and that is the addition of a USB 3.1 Type-C port for future gaming peripherals. Overall the minor issues don’t detract from the powerful hardware that the Lenovo Ideacentre Y900-34ISZ 90DD0075US offers users.

Acer Predator AG6-710-70002

With the great success of the Acer Predator gaming laptop series it’s no surprise that the desktop version is incredibly impressive. At first glance the military inspired chassis gives the impression that the Predator desktop means business and looking under the hood confirms it’s got the hardware to match. With components like the 4.0GHz Intel Core i7-6700K, 16GB of the modern DDR4 RAM and a combination of 256 GB of SSD storage as well as 2TB of HDD storage it’s easy to see why the Predator is such a heavy hitter. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX980 chews up and spits out even the latest games at high resolutions with ultra high FPS. Future proofers may be disappointed that the Predator offers no SLi support and that due to the messy internal wiring upgrades may be a chore. With ample power, plenty of storage and a whole host of connectivity options it’s easy to see why the Acer Predator AG6-710-70002 is a must have for die hard gamers.
